How effective is knowing that a user from California referred from Bing abandoned their shopping cart with $283 of merchandise after visiting 12 web pages over 6 minutes if you have no clue why?

According to John Lovett, Senior Analyst covering web analytics at Forrester Research, “the problem [with web analytics] was that the complexity and inability to take action on the data largely inhibited success.”

The Kampyle – Google Web Analytics integration, solves the challenges associated with web analytics while providing the only website feedback solution fully integrated with Google Analytics API.

R/GA’s Bob Greenberg used his seminar with Hewlett-Packard CMO Michael Mendenhall to extol the wonders of cloud-based computing, and take a few shots at how advertising is structured.

Greenberg is well known, of course, for his broadsides at traditional advertising. He predicted that hosted services would revolutionise marketing, making it more important than ever for brands to earn media rather than buy it.

Google launches AgencyLand for agencies

Big Agencies

AgencyLand.

It may sound like an amusement park, but it’s actually an online educational portal Google is developing for ad shops, one that likely will help the search giant deeper entrench itself in an ad-agency community that’s often been wary of it.

The AgencyLand platform, now in beta with select agencies, houses a ton of Google-centric content created for agency staff. Naturally, much of it is focused on digital topics.

There are webinars, a searchable library with more than 200 marketing case studies and short, on-demand video segments featuring Google leaders such as Chief Economist Hal Varian.

It also aggregates Google’s array of ad tools, such as a media-planning tool that connects advertisers and publishers and a website optimiser, which helps measure user behavior on web pages.

Micorsoft & Mediabrands join forces to centralise marketing data

MediaBrands

Microsoft and Mediabrands, the media division of Interpublic Group of Cos. that counts Microsoft as a major ad client, are collaborating to build a software system that marketers can use to track everything from search advertising and e-mail newsletters to CRM systems to TV buys in one place.

The logic is that too many of the tools used today to analyse and execute those various marketing functions don’t “talk” with one another, which creates inefficiencies and clouds decision-making.

Microsoft’s goal is to create a single platform to do so.

Microsoft and Mediabrands are calling the software platform the Media Operations Management System — and they’re certainly not underselling what they envision the final product to be. The announcement touts it as “intended to reinvent the way media is planned, purchased, measured, reported and optimised.”
