US-BASED internet audience measurement firm comScore plans to open offices in Sydney and Melbourne.

It will launch new services ahead of internet industry plans to appoint a preferred web ratings supplier.

Executive vice-president, international, Will Hodgman told Media comScore would tender when the Interactive Advertising Bureau asked for submissions for a preferred supplier for internet audience measurement figures, which is expected as early as this week.

The company has already built up an extensive panel of internet users in Australia, and in March began producing hybrid internet audience numbers, which refers to combining website-level data with the activity of a panel of individual users.

“Absolutely we’re interested in tendering,” Mr Hodgman said. “We’ve got panels in 41 countries. In Australia we have about 75,000 people under measurement. It’s a big number. It’s a big market and it needs to be handled with absolute justice.”
