Salesforce.com Marketing

With the Summer ’09 release, there are some major improvements to how Campaign Members are managed within the Salesforce.com CRM application.

Does this mean Salesforce.com is entering the marketing automation space and will compete with its now partners? Sure looks that way.

To help make it more real, we’ll follow Whitney, a marketing manager who is responsible for putting together a webinar for her company TechCo. We’ll break this down into several parts:

1) Creating a basic trigger to keep a quick count of the # RSVP’s

2) Using workflow & triggers to auto-email non-respondents 7 days later (automated multi wave drip campaigns)

3) Using Salesforce Sites for event registration landing pages

4) Using campaign member custom fields to prioritize responses from the webinar

5) Using campaign member custom fields & reports for offer management across campaigns

Hi Will,

We’re not looking to replace our partners at all. On the contrary, this latest release finally gives them the building blocks needed to do even tighter integration with Salesforce so that activity across all channels can be rolled up into campaigns for easier reporting. That means if you have a direct mail partner and a different email partner, now they can both track results in the same place – the campaign member table – so that these results can be rolled up at the initiative and program level across channels.

Our goal at Salesforce Marketing is to provide a basic end to end solution, and our partners will continue to achieve success along side us as they always have by providing deeper functionality in many areas such as resource planning, lead scoring, web tracking, and multi-wave campaign automation. Summer ’09 makes our campaign management offering stronger, but our partners continue to have deeper functionality that thousands of our joint customers love.
